Sofia Vergara is Who?

Sofia Vergara was born and raised in Colombia. After working as a model, she moved to the United States and became a respected host of Univision's programs. She began acting in films in 2000. Years later, she became a household star for her Emmy-nominated character as Gloria DelgadoPritchett in the hit sitcom Modern Family. Hot Pursuit, Happy Feet Two, The Smurfs and Chef are some of her other films.

Early life & Career

Sofia Vergara was born on July 10, 1972 in Barranquilla (Colombia) to a large family. Sofia Vergara learned English in a bilingual elementary and then went on to study dentistry. Vergara was photographed on a beach and discovered by a photographer. After being a model, Vergara starred in a Mexican telenovela and worked as a Pepsi salesman for Latin America.

After moving to the United States, Vergara hosted the travel show Fuera de Serie before becoming a Univision TV personality in the mid-1990s. Later she hosted the variety show A Que No Te Atreves. With a brief, charming appearance during the 1995 American Comedy Awards, she also attracted the attention English-language audiences.

 

 

Following her appearance in 2002's Big Trouble with Tim Allen and Rene Russo, Vergara gained fame as an actress in film. The next film was Chasing Papi in 2003, in which Vergara played one of Thomas Fuentes three girlfriends. At the end, Vergara had appeared in two Tyler Perry-directed films: Meet the Browns (2008) & Madea Goes to Jail(2009). She also made her Broadway debut in Chicago as Mama Morton.

'Modern Family’

Vergara was also cast as Gloria DelgadoPritchett in Modern Family, playing the role of the assertive and sexy Gloria DelgadoPritchett. __S.20__ Vergara was nominated in the supporting actor category for four Emmys and Golden Globes consecutively. In 2017, Vergara won a People's Choice Award as best comedic actress. Modern Family had to sign off in April 2020. Vergara was a star in The Smurfs, and she also voiced Carmen in Happy Feet Two in 2011, a sequel of the 2006 animated film. Vergara was also part of the ensemble cast for New year's Eve. Following up projects included Machete Kills (2013), an action movie that was over the top, and Fading Gigolo (2013), which was directed and starred Jon Favreau. Chef (2014) was also a series of art-house movies.

Vergara was the co-star of the 2015 buddy comedy Hot Pursuit with Reese Witherspoon. In 2017, Vergara also appeared in The Female Brain and contributed her voice to animated The Emoji Movie. In 2018, she starred as Bent, a crime thriller, and the baseball drama Bottom of the 9th the next year.

 

Fashion and Businesses

Vergara was an early pioneer of financial success, even before she became the highest-paid television actress. In 1994, Vergara co-founded Latin World Entertainment.

In 2011, she launched her own Kmart clothes line, and three years later, she released a perfume and jewelry line. Walmart partnered with her to create a denim brand in 2019.

Personal Life

 

Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma in 2000 by an endocrinologist who found a lump on her neck. She has been through surgery and radiation therapy since then and continues to take medication daily to manage her metabolism. Vergara also established a foundation to assist families in Colombia with their cancer treatment.

Vergara was married in 1992 to Joe Gonzalez, her childhood sweetheart. They have one son, Manolo. In 1993, the couple split. Vergara was engaged to Nick Loeb (a New Yorker and co-owner of a film production firm). In May 2014, however, Vergara and Nick Loeb split.

Vergara was in the middle a legal battle against Loeb back in 2015. Loeb sued Vergara for control over frozen embryos they created as a couple. Loeb claimed that she would destroy the embryos, but she refuted this claim. In a statement to People magazine, Vergara stated that Vergara was "content with the embryos being frozen indefinitely."

Vergara began dating Joe Manganiello in the summer after their split. Vergara announced her engagement to Manganiello in December 2014. In December 2014, Vergara and Manganiello announced their engagement on Jimmy Kimmel Live. She also revealed that she has American citizenship.
