ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born to Pamela Morgan (age 30) and Michael Morgan on July 2 1989. They raised her along with her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan played a variety of sports as a kid, but only started to play soccer when she reached the age of 14. Morgan then became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third in the under-19 bracket. Morgan continued her training at Diamond Bar High School, where she improved her soccer skills. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She was also a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan furthered her soccer career at UC Berkeley, where she was the leader of the California Golden Bears team in scoring right from the start of their first season. She was instrumental in taking the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice into the second round. Morgan was one of the four finalist for the Honda Sports Award. She also became the first Hermann Trophy finalist from her school. Upon graduating a semester at the beginning of 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was able manage soccer careers at the college and national levels during her time at Berkeley. Morgan was injured in her ACL in her very first year as a Berkeley player. She was unable to train for the U.S. Under-20 Women's Soccer team until April of 2008. Later that season Morgan scored her first goal for the international team in the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Mexico. Morgan took part in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, scoring four goals and winning her team the gold medal among other accolades.Morgan was later absorbed into the national team's senior squad, who she replaced and scored a number of important goals. One of these was a win goal against Italy that helped earn the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team and helped to win the game against France. Although the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first player in history to record both a goal and an assist in the final World Cup game.
