Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Aita Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29/09/1931 to 11/01/2015) was an Swedish actress, well-known for her beauty and stunning figure. Her performance as Sylvia in Federico Federlini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) was a hit and made her famous. Ekberg was born in Sweden on the 29th of September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model for fashion in her teens. At the request of her mother Ekberg took part in Miss Malmo in 1950. She won the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she spoke little English Ekberg traveled to the United States to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an non-official pageant at the time. The pageant was made officially recognized in 1952. Even though Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe pageant, as one of six contestants, she did earn a starlet's contract with Universal Studios. Ekberg was a Universal starletin which she was taught drama, elocution and dancing. She was briefly seen in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as the woman on Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
